The leaves and petals of this plant are used to make tea. It is used as a calming agent and helps to relieve both anxiety and insomnia. While generally safe to use, it is recommended that adults ingest 200 mg or less per day to avoid overdose. Another popular herbal supplement used is St. John’s Wort. Even an environmental factor as basic as being social to your co-workers can affect your anxiety level. Work, in general, is one of the top anxiety triggers. Panic attacks can be extremely frightening, and can trigger such a physical response that occasionally people will think they are having a heart attack or are dying. They can affect every aspect of the person’s life. Many people that suffer from panic attacks live in fear of their next episode and may experience depression as well. Panic attacks were once thought to be just typical nerves, stress or a sign of weakness, but have since been considered a treatable medical condition.</p><p>One of the suspected <strong>causes of panic attacks</strong> is genetics. A person with a family history of panic disorders is twice as likely to develop the problem themselves. Studies performed on twins point to genetics as a cause of panic attacks, however, some people develop them with no family history at all. In those cases, other causes of panic attacks are likely the culprit.</p><p>Psychologically caused panic attacks are often triggered during times of great stress. Marriage, the birth of a new baby, death of a loved one, graduation, a big move, or career change can result in the onset of panic attacks for some individuals. Fear of the next panic attack can also perpetuate the cycle, and may be a cause of psychological induced panic attacks.</p><p>Research also suggests that panic attacks are caused by a physiological disorder in the brain. The amygdala is a part of the brain that is responsible for activating a fear response in the human body. If this function is misfiring in the brain, it can tell the body that it should be afraid when there is actually nothing to fear. The body gets ready to defend itself by increasing the adrenaline, which leads to increased heart rate, and less blood flow to the brain. This is “fight or flight” response is the brain’s way of ensuring its safety if the body has to defend itself.</p><p>A patient suffering from panic attacks should visit their doctor to uncover the cause and find a treatment plan. If genetics, psychological, and physiological causes of panic attacks are ruled out, the doctor may test to be sure that there is no other underlying medical issue such as nutritional deficiency, hyperthyroidism, hypoglycemia, or medication withdrawal. Beck, the <strong>Beck Anxiety Inventory</strong> was created in order to properly measure the levels of a person’s anxiety level. The inventory itself is composed of 21 different self-reporting multiple choice questions. Also known as the BAI, it has four different choices; Not at all, mildly, moderately, and severely. The choice that is made on these four influences the end result of the test itself. There are four different levels on the BAI that show how much stress or anxiety that a person is under. It goes from 0-7, 8-15, 16-25, and 23-63. This test has also been used to check if there is a chance that the person may being affected by depression instead of anxiety.</p><p><script src="http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js" type="text/javascript"></script></p><p>There is a maximum score and the higher the number a person receives on the test shows how much anxiety they suffer from. It has also been shown that women that have disorders with anxiety will tend to score 4 points higher than men who have the same disorder. The great thing about this test is that it is not limited to a certain gender or age group. Men, women, young adults, and even the elderly can benefit from taking the BAI. The test itself should only take somewhere between 5 and 10 minutes depending on the person taking it. This doesn’t by any means mean that the test isn’t as in depth. The test is very accurate in measuring anxiety with a few short questions.</p><p>A great thing about the Beck Anxiety Inventory is the fact that it can be taken by you or even given by someone else. This means if a person doesn’t feel comfortable taking it alone, a friend of family member can always help them. These <strong>relaxation techniques for anxiety</strong> may be the most important tools you have in getting stress under control.</p><p>Breathing is the most essential of all the relaxation techniques for anxiety. Breath deeply and focus on your breath. Imagine that you are breathing in cool fresh air and picture the air filling your lungs. As you exhale picture all of your negative and worrisome thoughts being pushed out with the breath.</p><p><script src="http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js" type="text/javascript"></script></p><p>Focusing your mind is used in many of the relaxation techniques for anxiety. To learn how to do this you can start by selecting a small object. Clear you mind and put all of your attention on that object. Inhale and exhale as you focus. Position yourself in a comfortable position in a quiet room with no distractions. Close your eyes and focus your mind on being free of all thoughts. Concentrate on your breath and what your body feels like at that exact moment. Be in the moment, do not think of what will happen or what has happened. Just feel what is happening right now. Some people find it soothing to repeat a mantra either out loud or in their head. Try selecting a soothing phrase and repeating it slowly as you concentrate on your breath.</p><p>Listening to soothing music is another stress reliever that is easy and enjoyable. There are several relaxation techniques for anxiety involving music and many companies have made music specifically for relaxation. This is a great way to free your mind and get in a more relaxed mood.</p><p>Massage with or without essential oils in a great way to relax the body and the mind. Try to clear your mind as your muscles get relaxed and you will feel refreshed and rejuvenated. Massages can be costly so ask a significant other, family member or friend for a massage and return the favor for them when they need one.</p><p>Exercising is a great way to work out some of your stress. Try and get some physical activity at least 4 times a week. This will ensure the health of your body and give you time to mull over issues you are worrying about.</p><p>Stress does not have to rule your life, you can get out from under it.
